“I crept, a stealthy, hungry soul, to grasp Its vast edge, to look out to the beyond; To know. My eyes strained out; there was no bond, no continuity, no bridge to clasp, No pillars for the universe...”
…Just sounds, mad sounds everywhere. This was not my first time seeing A Place To Bury Strangers, and it sure as hell wont be the last! As I had said before, more than a show, to see A Place To Bury Strangers is a full blown atmospheric experience. This time around, they played a smaller venue, which made the show feel a bit more intimate. They opened up with the killer “Ego Death” matched up with great lights, it felt like being interrogated by God or something, I really hadn’t figured it out in my head yet and then BAM! “I Know I’ll See You” all up in my face, it was great, they were loud, really loud, but I could still hear the vocals with a clarity that most solo artists would envy. I watched in awe as they played and used their pedals, used the lights, the fog and everything around them to deliver this mass of energy to the audience, “Deadbeat” unchained the beast in all the members of the audience, Oliver Ackermann started throwing his guitar around, making sounds, kneeling down, turning around and making more sounds again, it was fantastic! By the time they played “The Falling Sun” I started to feel like the whole universe was pressing down my head (in a great way) I had a beat up Jaguar 4 inches apart from my forehead and strobe lights making everything seem ten billion times more epic (as if it wasn’t epic enough by itself). Last song was “Ocean” as soon as they dropped their instruments, I just knew that a moment like that, was the kind of thing that helps build up a big change in one’s live, like a memorable event that actually has some sort of mental repercussion, the kind that makes you open up to new things and embrace the sensibility of your senses. That said, me and my friend Ines met up with the band later, shared some laughs, some beers… Besides from being absolutely genius, they are also great people, it is good to know that they are still that, people, legit, down to earth, funny, people, even the sound guy was the shit. I just can’t wait to see them again.
