The Brian Jonestown Massacre

Even though the BJM have changed their lineup as often as you change underwear, they are still a solid mass of psychedelia. They were great last night at the Apolo (not THE Apollo in Harlem…) I’m a big fan, and I was happy they didn’t play any songs from “Who Killed Sgt. Pepper?” ... ‘cause that would’ve killed the show for me. Best song? Oh Lord. A song I wished they had played? Spun. Anton Newcombe got in an argument, of course, but thank God they kept playing. It give it a 9 out of 10.

A pesar de que BJM ha cambiado mas de integrantes que de ropa interior, siguen pareciendo una masa concisa de psicodelia. Anoche se presentaron en el Apolo (el de Barcelona, no el de Harlem) y con 5 guitarras (o eran 6?) dieron uno de los mejores conciertos que he visto. Gracias a dios que no interpretaron ningún tema de “Who Killed Sgt. Pepper?” La mejor canción? Oh Lord. La que me quede esperando? Spun. Anton Newcombe discutió con varios de los miembros, por-su-pu-es-to, pero esto no paro la música, gracias a Dios. Le doy un 9 de 10 a el show.

Sonic Youth

Sonic Youth, is without a doubt one of the greatest, this was not my first time seeing them, and it wont be the last. Even thought the sound wasn’t as good in Razzmatazz as it is at Variety Playhouse, it was still an amazing gig. Best song? “Death Valley 69” Kim Gordon still has it, her voice is still sharp, loud and refined; as for Thurston Moore and Lee Renaldo, they are both still the shit, drowning my sunshine into seas of Jazzmaster's, as I remembered. Hands down, they still got it. Unlike most bands that survived these times, Sonic Youth are still great, and they still have the essence that reminds me of why I like the sound of guitars being pressed up against amps, shoved up into the crowd’s hands and rubbed down against the steel mic stands. Long live SY!

Sonic Youth es sin lugar a duda una de las mejores bandas en este momento, en el 2009 sacaron uno de los mejores discos, The Eternal, probando así que aun tienen chispa. Este no fue mi primer concierto de la banda, ni tampoco será el ultimo. Aunque el sonido en Razzmatazz no es tan bueno como en Variety Playhouse, el concierto fue genial. La mejor canción? “Death Valley 69” Kim Gordon no ha perdido su virtud, su voz es afilada, sedosa y penetrante. Thurston Moore y Lee Ranaldo siguen siendo unos jefes, ahogando mis penas en mares de Jazzmasters, sin mas que decir, fue increíble, aun existe la esencia de Sonic Youth, la que me recuerda porque me gusta tanto el sonido de las guitarras presionadas contra el amplificador, clavadas en las manos de la audiencia y deslizadas en contra de tubos de acero. Larga vida a SY.
